February 2006
Uniontown Area School District

“Committed to Educational Excellence”—the Uniontown Area School District's motto captures the collaborative goals of district teachers, administrators, and the Project MP3 staff. We were very excited to introduce Project MP3 to Superintendent Dr. Charles Machesky and his administrative staff early this month. The meeting was informative and enlightening for all. We learned more about UASD’s philosophies of teaching reading in supportive, individualized, literature-rich classrooms, while our staff shared the principles of effective progress monitoring to increase student’s reading achievement and to implement a Response to Intervention (RTI) approach for decision making to more accurately identify students in need of special education and additional reading support. One resounding common goal discussed during the meeting was helping teachers recognize the invaluable link between assessment and instruction to promote greater success with reading. Finally, the UASD administrators helped us to create a list of possible participating schools that would benefit from the resources and support provided by Pitt and PaTTan through Project MP3.

We are off to a good start! March is right around the corner so check back soon for our next update.
