21st Century Leading and Learning Skills:
"Middle Level Education in a Hot, Flat, Crowded World"

The Theme for our 2009 conference is a futuristic one and seeks to address two challenges America will face in the next 25 years and how Middle Level educators might respond to them. One is the prospect that in the 21st Century international circumstances will likely change the place of the United States on the world stage. The second is the effect that global warming, vastly improved technology and a growing world population will have on the life of everyone in the 21st Century.

Middle Level Basics

So while our program will again offer the "Middle Level Basics" we are excited to present the following presentations in keeping with our theme:

  • From Picasso to Pythagoras: Blending Technology into Multiple Content Areas
  • Engaging Students in Cultural Understanding
  • Green Light: How Middle Schools can take Steps Toward Sustainability
  • Conversations that Matter: The Future of Middle Schools in a World of Global Competition
  • Learning 2.0 --- Engaging 21st Century Learners
  • Accessing the Virtual Classroom
  • The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program

In addition we will be offering some popular past presentations as well as some new ones on:

  • Is Bullying Prevention Possible?
  • Looking Good and Feeling Good --- Ways to Boost Morale and Create Wellness Opportunities for Your Staff
  • Learn, Share and Beware! --- Building Confident Learners in the Special-Education Co-teaching Classroom
  • Using Data to Measure Student Performance and Drive School Improvement
  • The Fateful Transition from Elementary School to Middle School

The very latest publications on middle school topics will be available at the bookstall provided by the Pennsylvania Middle School Association.
