RESEARCH AND INQUIRY
Professional educators are continually improving their practice by investigating problems, exploring options, trying possible solutions, collecting data, and determining the success of these solutions. Research and inquiry in the IPDS occurs at many different levels. K-12 educators and preservice teachers investigate their own practice and Lehigh students and faculty try interventions and explore theories. These are some example projects:

  • Teacher Self-Studies: Rather than have a typical teaching evaluation, teaching staff with tenure may choose to complete a self-study project. Products that have resulted from the first year of this program include an orientation packet for intern teachers, a DVD for parents of incoming kindergarten students, and a monthly IPDS newsletter to keep the staff informed of partnership activities. Several groups of teachers focused on improving reading comprehension through expanding the materials and activities they used and documenting their success.

  • Technology Implementation: Two teachers designed a technology workshop program and documented changes in teachers attitudes toward technology use and their integration of the targeted technologies.
