2009 - Navigating the Autism Maze
On May 3rd, 2009 five nationally renowned autism spectrum experts provided an overview in areas ranging from social skills and inclusion to communication and family supports. The afternoon presentation was moderated by Lehigh’s Dr. Linda Bambara, professor of Special Education.
The following, never before assembled panel of experts provided a rare opportunity to look at autism from a multiple of perspectives leading to a better understanding of the condition and effective supports.
Panelists:

Jed Baker, Ph.D.

A behavioral consultant for several New Jersey School Systems, where he provides social skills training for students with pervasive developmental disorders and learning disabilities. |

Paula Kluth, Ph.D.
|
A consultant, teacher, author, advocate, and independent scholar who works with teachers and families to provide inclusive opportunities for students with disabilities and to create more responsive and engaging schooling experiences for all learners. |

Lynn Koegel, Ph.D.
|
The clinical director of autism services in the UCSB Koegel Autism Center, has developed programs to improve communication in children with autism, including the development of first words, development of grammatical structures, and pragmatics. |

Robert Koegel, Ph.D.
|
An international authority in autism, specializing in language intervention, family support, and school integration. He is the Director of the UCSB Koegel Autism Center, a professor of clinical psychology, and a professor of special education. |

Joyce E. Mauk, M.D.
|
Serves as President/CEO/Medical Director of the Child Study Center. She is a neurodevelopmental pediatrician who has done extensive research on autism spectrum disorders, psychopharmacology and behavioral disorders. |
