Ventures in Leadership Grant

The faculty of the Educational Leadership program is currently involved in two major training and development grants. The Ventures in Leadership grant funded by the DeWitt Wallace-Reader’s Digest Fund is designed to support the establishment of a Leadership Academy for early and mid-career building administrators in the 13 school districts of the Colonial Intermediate Unit. The theme of the Academy is enhancing the organizational, management and leadership skills of principals and assistant principals that directly affect student learning. This project also supports research in the area of leadership and learning.

Urban School Leadership Development

The US Department of Education Urban School Leadership Development project is a cooperative venture with the School District of Philadelphia and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP). The primary purpose of the project is to develop and design a new approach to preparing aspiring and in-service principals for successful leadership in urban schools. In addition, the project will design a selection process and training program for principal mentors and support the establishment of a national principal mentoring academy. This project involves research on the selection and retention of urban school principals, and on the role that mentorship play in this process.
