Dean of the College of Education

Lehigh University invites applications and nominations for the Dean of the graduate College of Education. We are seeking a leader who recognizes that our strengths create unique opportunities to address the issues facing pre K-12 education and human service delivery. The ideal candidate will provide strategic leadership to further advance the College's national stature. It is expected that the Dean will have a record of scholarship with an earned doctorate in one of the six fields represented by the disciplinary programs in the college. Other attributes of a successful candidate include:

  • Demonstrated success in and commitment to scholarship and teaching;
  • A commitment to diversity and community partnerships;
  • The ability to cultivate and articulate a shared vision of the College to both internal and external constituencies;
  • The ability to recognize excellence in others and facilitate their success;
  • Demonstrated academic management skill;
  • A commitment to forming strong partnerships with other Colleges at Lehigh and beyond;
  • The potential for effective outreach to major foundations and external educational leaders;
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

The College of Education Dean sits with the University's other three College Deans and Provost as part of the academic decision-making team for the entire university. He or she serves as the leader of the College's 31 tenure-track and 5 full-time instructional faculty, 116 full-time and part-time staff, and 618 graduate students (384 masters, 143 doctoral, and 91 non-degree/certification only) including over 200 international students from 58 countries. He or she will oversee domestic and international graduate and professional educational programs across the College's six disciplinary areas: Counseling Psychology; Educational Leadership; School Psychology; Special Education; Teaching, Learning and Technology; and Transcultural Comparative International Education. In addition, the Dean will have oversight responsibility for the College's centers and the affiliated Centennial School for children with emotional/behavioral problems. 

Ranked in the top tier among national research institutions in the United States, Lehigh is a coeducational, nondenominational, private institution. It enrolls 4,600 undergraduate and 2,000 graduate students and employs 443 faculty and 995 staff in its four colleges ( College of Arts and Sciences , College of Business and Economics , P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science , College of Education ). The university's endowment exceeds $1 billion, with a major campaign currently underway.

Founded in 1865, Lehigh is located in eastern Pennsylvania, on a scenic, 1,600-acre campus in historic Bethlehem, about one and one-half hours from New York or Philadelphia. Lehigh Valley International Airport, served by most major airlines, is 15 minutes from campus. The Lehigh Valley is an especially attractive place to live and work with reasonable costs of living, easy commuting, excellent schools, and numerous cultural activities.
