Project MP3: Monitoring Progress of Pennsylvania Pupils - Preliminary Outcomes of a Response-to-Intervention Model

Presentation Abstract:
With the reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, school districts have been afforded the opportunity to implement models aimed at the prevention of the development of reading problems in young elementary students. Project MP3 is a U.S. Department of Education model/demonstration grant focused on school-wide screening, providing strategic and intensive levels of interventions for reading, and evaluation of a Response-to-Intervention model for potentially identifying students as having Specific Learning Disabilities. Description of the model and its elements as well as preliminary results from the first year of implementation will be presented, along with a discussion of challenges related to the process of implementation.
