"Growing up in a war-torn country, I’ve always questioned my own
academic journey. This question has driven my research focus in trying
to understand the roles that family and sociocultural contexts play in
facilitating/impeding one's academic achievement. My passion is to explore the way in which intangible resources embedded in cultural values/social networks can be utilized to benefit struggling people."

THE COSTS

QuestionHow much does tuition cost?

AnswerTuition for the 2011-2012 academic year is $550 per credit hour (classes are typically three credit hours).

QuestionWhat are the typical costs for books?
AnswerEach course requires a combination of textbooks, novels, and books that need to be purchased as well as downloadable, free articles available on the course website. The texts will change slightly each semester as the professor deems fit. A typical fulltime student can expect to pay up to $200 per semester for books for three courses. The Lehigh bookstore will carry both new and used copies of the required texts; however, used books can often be found online at reduced prices.

QuestionAre there other costs associated with the program or the College of Education?
AnswerAdditional fees include a $150 technology fee (full-time students only), $65 application fee, and  $100 late course registration fee (if applicable).

QuestionAre there opportunities for scholarships and will it cover all the costs of the program?
AnswerThe College of Education currently offers three scholarships that offer tuition awards. The three scholarships are: The Lewis R. Shupe III Endowed Doctoral Scholarship, the Thomas/Brucker Endowed Minority Doctoral Scholarship, and the Villas/Woodring Master’s Scholarship. Beyond the College of Education awards, the CIE program awards partial tuition scholarships as deemed appropriate to students each semester. The CIE program awards require no application, but do require a commitment to enroll for the semester of the award.

We encourage students to explore outside scholarships and financial aid as well.

QuestionAre there opportunities for assistantships?
AnswerMany assistantships are available for graduate students in the College of Education. The CIE program offers two: a program assistantship and an editorial assistantship. For more information about these assistantships, please contact Dr.Iveta Silova (ism207@lehigh.edu).

We encourage students to explore the College of Education specifically and Lehigh University generally for assistantships outside of academic departments. Many assistantships exist in offices such as the Study Abroad Office, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the Athletic Department. Be creative and take the initiative; look through Lehigh’s website at departments and offices for potential assistantships and then contact the office.

Assistantships typically require 20 hours per week of work, award full tuition, and provide a small stipend.
