On Friday, March 17th, Dr. H. Lynn Columba, Program Coordinator of the newly created “Teaching, Learning and Technology” (TLT) program announced at the COE Faculty meeting the merger between the Technology-based Teacher Education and Educational Technology Programs. The vote was a unanimous decision of both programs' faculty members. The two programs have been considering this option since 1999. Dr. MJ Bishop of the former Educational Technology Program has since become energized by the possibilities that it will afford. “Our two programs have always been collaborative. The partnership between the two was a natural,” Bishop added. The intersections that regularly brought the faculty together included team teaching, research proposals and they have even shared a cross appointed faculty member. Dr. Columba commented “we have a wonderfully active group; we are cohesive with a great foundation and a determination to move forward.” Merging the two programs into one offers additional opportunities to strengthen the Learning, Sciences and Technology doctoral program, to respond in a timely manner to changes in PDE, and to enhance current collaborations with the International program and the Special Education program. The faculty of the new TLT program have many and varied partnerships within the Lehigh University community that will have further opportunities for development.
