Dr. Bishop's research interests are in understanding the fundamental components and the psychology behind instructional media and delivery systems in order to discover their pedagogical capabilities and limitations and to devise more effective ways to design instructional technologies to enhance learning.

This includes:

  1. Determining how media, particularly sound (a currently underutilized instructional design element), might be used more effectively to help optimize instructional communications.
  2. Designing optimally effective instructional messages based on the unique ways various communication technologies and media presentations affect the learner.
  3. Exploring how information-processing, communication, and systems theories might further inform our understanding of teaching and learning.
