RESEARCH
Dr. Columba's research focuses on facilitating students to make meaning in the mathematics classroom. This is illustrated in The Power of Picture Books in Teaching Math and Science (2005) coauthored with C. Kim and A. Moe. Currently, she is collaborating with other Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) faculty in assessing and assisting at-risk students achieve with the First in Math© online program. The STEM team is a collaborative approach across disciplines and colleges including school districts and industry partners. Other research comprises a coaching/mentoring professional development model implemented in an elementary urban school to initiate best practices in mathematics instruction.
