For the list:

An applied math colleague asks where to read about homotopy groups
of Grassmannians. (He has had a student working on something with
a Morse theory flavor, and they needed to know about the fundamental
group of Grassmannian. They were wondering about the rest of the
story.) I'll tell him some of the rest of the story, but as usual
I don't know what book to recommend.
