Gerd Laures's example is therefore a genuine counterexample. Any product, infinite or not, of quasicompact spaces is quasicompact and similarly any product of Hausdorff spaces is Hausdorff. Thus I^M is compact Hausdorff---a fortiori, compactly generated.
