Here is what 2005 Lehigh Valley Fire Captain, Shiyang Cao, wrote to the team several days after we won the national championship.

Dear All,

So aside from the usual congratulations that we earned, I'd just like to add a word of thank you, to everybody.

To Dr Davis and Dr Monks, your dedication and hard work is certainly unparalleled. This victory, 13 years in the making, is not ours, but yours. Dr Davis, a thanks goes out to you especially, for having given me the chance back in 9th grade. From my stumbling beginnings as a freshman, you've taught me well, and i certainly I've served you well.

To Everyone else, thank you for a great four years. I must say, as dorky as this sounds, some of my best friends have been from arml. Every Sunday, I'd actually look forward to arml, just to see all of you. I'm unbelievably lucky to have at least 2 of you wonderful people join me next year, and i say at least 2 because I'm expecting more of you talented people to join us in Cambridge next year.

Aside from trying to erase with objects other than an eraser, ARML has truly been the place that made me feel dumb. Everyone is just so impressive and talented. It's been a pleasure serving as fire team captain, but i must say, with all the talent surrounding me, this certainly isn't the first time I've questioned "why me?"

For some of us, this is the end of a high school career, and what a great ending it was. For others, this is only the beginning of great years to come. So whether you are looking back or looking forward, never stop chasing after your dreams, never stop impressing me. I want to have the opportunity to say "hey was on ARML with him/her!" when you made history around the globe.

Yes we're math geeks, but yes we have emotions too. I wish everyone the best in the days to come;and as a parting senior, I'll miss you all.

Congratulations on a victory well deserved,

Shiyang

P.S. if everyone could update their addressbooks to scao@fas.harvard.edu that'd be great. Thanks!
