**Lectureship in Sheffield Pure Mathematics Department from October 1998.**

   Several people have asked me the same questions, so perhaps I can post
some further explanations.

1. The job is permanent. (Formally there is a probationary period,
but unlike tenure track jobs, it is most unusual for the post not
to be confirmed).
2. The salary is standard for UK Lectureships
This is in the range GBP 16,045  - 27,985
(and very much dependent on age and somewhat on experience).
3.  Research is expected, and strongly encouraged. So is
teaching (typically 3 or 4 lecture courses per year to
start with).
4.  No field of pure mathematics is prescribed.
