Subject: jobs in Aberdeen From: Ran Levi Date: Tue, 01 Mar 2005 17:39:21 +0000 To: DON DAVIS Dear Don, would you please post the following announcement to the list. Thanks, Ran -------------------------------------------------------------------- Professorial Appointments at Aberdeen. The College of Physical Sciences at Aberdeen is planning to increase the number of its high calibre researchers, with a particular emphasis on the field of Pure Mathematics. This session nine mathematicians have been appointed, four at the professorial level. Fields of existing strength are Algebraic and Differential Topology, and Representation Theory of Groups and Associative Algebras. In addition to these areas, preferred fields for additional recruitment are algebraic geometry and algebraic number theory, including work on computational aspects of the last two fields. Procedures are unusual in that members of staff are asked to identify candidates, particularly those who may be suitable for a high level appointment, and if they can convince the university that a prima facie case exists, the formal process of applying and interviewing begins. Candidates of outstanding research ability are therefore invited to contact an appropriate member of the department, or if they have no previous personal contacts, the Head of Department at j.hubbuck@maths.abdn.ac.uk Information on the departments is available at http://www.maths.abdn.ac.uk/ -- Ran Levi Aberdeen Topology Centre Department of Mathematical Sciences University of Aberdeen Aberdeen AB24 3UE Scotland, UK Tel: +44 (0) 1224 272 753 Email: ran@maths.abdn.ac.uk Home Page: http://www.maths.abdn.ac.uk/~ran/
