Subject: write to your university/academic press? From: J D Cranch Date: Tue, 4 Sep 2007 17:38:01 +0100 Following on from the recent discussion of high journal prices, I'd like to draw your attention to PRISM. This is a pressure group set up by the Association of American Publishers, a body which includes companies like Elsevier and Springer, 26 university presses in the USA and UK, and also many academic society presses. They have started a campaign to oppose Open Access publishing, starting by lobbying against an American draft law S.2695. I think their approach and language are alarming. If you are at a university or in a society with a Press, I'd like to encourage you to write a letter to them asking them not to support PRISM: now seems like a good time. I've put some links to references, university press contact details and other possibly useful resources online at http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~jdc41/aap/aap-resources.html Thanks, James \/\/\
