Subject: Re: Question about Vietoris Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 13:16:55 -0400 (EDT) From: Wolfgang Ziller Vietoris is still alive, I think and I heard that until recently was still writing math papers! He should indeed be 110 now. Quite an accomplishment. If you ask someone in Austria they can probably tell you more details about what he does. Wolfgang Ziller ___________________________ Subject: Re: Question about Vietoris Date: Tue, 19 Jun 2001 19:41:51 +0200 (MET DST) From: Hans-Werner Henn When I taught an introductory course in Algebraic Topology last year, I happened to read a short note in the German daily "Die Sueddeutsche Zeitung" (March 20), just about when I disussed the MV sequence. The occasion was the 80th anniversary of Vietoris' Ph.D. at the University of Innsbruck. He took part in the ceremony. The note presented him as the oldest living Austrian, 108 years old. His last publication appeared 3 years earlier. He also has a reputation a glacier expert. A short vita is included (in German).
