To complement building K-12 math skills through drills, I had an
undergraduate put together a web site of projects, aimed at teachers and
others who want to enrich students' learning of mathematics after school.
This came out of work we had done at a local after-school learning center.

There is a list of projects by grade-level (roughly based on the
grade-level standards put together in California with the help of Gunnar
Carlsson, Ralph Cohen and Jim Milgram among others)  at:

There is a wide range of projects from counting the number of squares on a
chess board to playing with Pascal's triangle to playing a version of "Go
Fish" in which the cards are labeled by fractions and "matches" are
equivalent fractions.  The idea is that these projects present engaging
problems which lead students to develop basic skills and intuition.
