Hook, a 1970 Ph.D. student of Bob Stong’s at Virginia. He was 60. Hook’s dissertation “Stable Equivariant Bordism” was published in Mathematische Zeitschrift (1972) in a joint paper with Theodor Bröcker. After a postdoctoral appointment at M.I.T., Dr. Hook was on the Fordham faculty. He then joined Control Data. For the past 15 years, he was a senior software engineer with the NASA Advanced Supercomputing Division at the Ames Research Center, California. Ed Hook is survived by three University of Virginia alumnae: his wife Marda and daughters Karen and Elizabeth.
