Date: Mon, 18 Jan 1999 10:37:33 -0600 (CST) From: Brayton Gray Subject: Base point questions While base points seem to be in the news, let me ask a question that has long bothered me, and severely cramped the generality of one of the theorems in my 1975 textbook: Can X be so badly pointed that S^n ^ X is not simply connected for any n? This informs on the question as to whether the reduced ordinary homology of a space, defined by the Eilenberg MacLane spectrum, is positively graded(as it is for CW complexes). Brayton Gray
