One important posting: I have discussed this with Andy, and encourage all list members to enter their data into Andy's database. It is not envisioned that this would replace my mailing list, but it might eventually replace my list of personal webpages of topologists, which tends to become outdated. ..........DMD __________________________________________________ Subject: New database of topolgists Date: Wed, 31 Jul 2002 15:14:44 +0100 From: Andrew_Baker Database of Topologists I have created a test version of a database into which topologists can enter their information. It has various functions such as search capabilities. You are invited to enter your personal details and experiment with it. I will standardise formats for countries - please use obvious short forms such as USA but otherwise use full names. Similarly use full forms for subject areas. The display is temporary and will be redesigned once I learn how to work with php. In particular, the links will become active and I will document the available functions more clearly. It is intended that eventually data for constructing mailing lists for conferences, etc will be available. I will not make data available to commercial organisations, however users should note that it is openly viewable. Once it contains enough entries it is hoped to use this in place of other lists of topologists so please advertise its existence to other topologists. The database can be accessed via the British Topology Home page at http://www.maths.gla.ac.uk/~ajb/btop.phtml Andy Baker (a.baker@maths.gla.ac.uk)
