Advanced Dreamweaver
Navigation Bars
Dreamweaver has an easy method for setting up Navigation bars:
Create the navigation bar
- Go Insert and choose Image Objects, then Navigation Bar
- For each element in the nav bar, enter the information:
- Name of the element
- Default image (Up image)
- Rollover image (over image)
- Default image on the page the element points to (Down image)
- Rollover image on the page the element points to (Over while down image)
- Alternate Text
- URL to link to (When clicked, go to URL)
- Choose to arrange the elements Horizontally or Vertically, and whether or not to use tables.
Modify the navigation bar as necessary.
To modify the navigation bar, go to the Modify menu and choose Navigation bar. Since each page can have only one navigation bar, you don't have to select anything to modify.
Copy and paste it onto the affected pages
Select the navigation bar, and copy it. Go to the pages where you want the nav bar to appear, and paste it.
Modify the navigation so the down buttons appear where appropriate.
- On each page, go into Modify and choose the Navigation bar.
- Select the element that represents that page in the navigation bar.

- Check the Show "Down image" initially box for that element.
- Close.
