PLEASE NOTE: New Reload Procedures are in place: The software reload procedure for the public site computers has changed. Please follow these instructions when a reload is required:
Near the end of the boot-up procedure, the system displays a message "Hit F12 for Refresh Options". You need to hit F12 within 3 seconds to reload the system software; otherwise it will boot from the local hard drive. If you elect to reload the system software by hitting F12 within the 3 seconds allotted, you will be presented with a "preliminary" Windows blue screen requesting authentication ID and password. You only get one chance to enter your ID and password correctly; otherwise you need to reboot and start over. After you authenticate, you can choose to do a single refresh, or start the multicast client. The reload process will take approximately 10-13 minutes, dependent on the network load.

Windows 98 will be installed.
Logins will be required for all computers on LTS Networks - the public user Lehigh will be eliminated. Each student will need to open a LAN account in order to use LTS public site computers or access the LAN through the WIRED residential networking project. The LAN account name (and password) will be the same as the AFS account for each student. Faculty and staff will be able to use their existing LAN account to log into public site PCs.
Logouts will restore the desktop to the default (removes client added icons), clears the personal Netscape configuration data, empties trash, restores the background patterns, etc.
Remote Access to E-mail will be supported by implementing roaming profiles to allow public site access to e-mail through Netscape messenger. Address books, mail preferences, and mail messages will be stored remotely to allow access to e-mail through Netscape's graphical user interface from any public site PC.
The changes and proper usage for computing sites
will be available in a document entitled LTS
Guide to Public Computing Sites and Classrooms for the Fall semester.
