These devices, as well as the auxiliary audio ports located on the podium are connected to the amplifier and speakers.  Devices are selected and controlled from the LCD AMX touch panel, located at the top right side of the instructor’s station.  The AMX touch panel also controls the screen and audio levels.  The local computer is connected to the backbone network.  A wireless mouse is available (contact the Media Center 83059 for information).

The auxiliary jacks provided include a 9 pin male VGA connector with associated network jack and stereo Ľ” mini jack (for portable computers) and BNC video connector with associated RCA audio jack (for cameras, VCRs, document presenters, etc.).  AC power is also available at the podium.  The auxiliary jacks are provided for client's who wish to use their own special equipment and associated cables.  Connection of Macintosh or PC laptops to the auxiliary inputs requires a special interface cable that has been attached to the podium.

A built-in microphone is located on the podium as is a small light with a dimmer.  A wireless lavaliere microphone, a hand-held wireless microphone, and up to four wired microphones are available for use in this room.  Microphones can be obtained from Rauch Center for Business Communication (84863).  Wired microphones may be attached at each of four microphone jacks located on wall beneath the chalkboard.

The auditorium is also equipped with a 35mm slide projector (remote controlled from the touch pad or a wireless remote).  For access to these please contact the Media Center or the College of Business Office.

Assistance

Instructional Technology Support Services (ITSS) may be contacted at x83059 if you wish to arrange for training on this room's features prior to using the room.  Trouble reports may be reported to the Help Desk at x8HELP (84357).

Usage of the Devices

  1. Power up the equipment and projector by touching the AMX touch-pad located on the top right of the podium (two or three touches may be required, one if the screen is black, one if for a room page, and one if the text says "Touch to activate system").
  2. Power up the computer CPU and monitor if being used (buttons on monitor and computer).  You must complete a LAN login to use a public computer by typing your user name and password in the appropriate fields in the opening dialog box.  Remember to log out when you are done.  See the "LTS Guide to Public Computing Sites and Classrooms" document for additional information on use of public sites.
  3. Power up the VCR (if being used)
  4. Press the “Source” button on the AMX touch-pad that corresponds to the device to be projected.  If the screen does not lower, press the down arrow on the screen button.

“VCR” activates the projector, the VHS VCR, and displays the play, pause and other controls

“Podium PC” activates the projector and podium computer.

“Podium Laptop” activates the projector and auxiliary computer jacks (9 pin male VGA and stereo mini audio jack) for client-supplied laptop.

"Doc. Cam" activates the document camera and projector and displays the document camera preview on the small monitor on the base of the camera. Detailed instructions for the document camera are attached.

“Slides” adjusts the screen, and displays function control for the slide projector (located in the projection booth to the rear).

“ “Picture Off” blanks the projector image

  5. 6. The document camera is located on the right side of the instructor's station. Raise the camera head by pulling up on the small blue tab. If the camera does not come on, power and light buttons are located on the right side of the base. A green light indicates power on. If you have not already done so, select the document camera from the input bar on top of the touch pad. Zoom, focus and other control buttons are located on the camera head. Detailed instructions are included below.
  7. Lighting controls are located on the wall to the side of the instructor’s area.

Before leaving the room you MUST logout of the system.  Double click the bright yellow exclamation point icon on the Windows Desktop.  You may then select "Shutdown" or "Logout": one button clears the system and leaves the computer ready for the next user; the other turns off the computer.  If you make no selection your account will be logged out and the system will return to the login screen.  If you fail to logout, the next user of the system will have access to your account and files.

Notes on Computer Usage

Upon power up, the computer will respond with “Do a complete software reload [Y/N]]”.  If you press Y within 8 seconds the computer will reload all software from the network and restore the computer to its original operating condition.  The reload may take as long as 10 minutes and MUST NOT be interrupted.  A system reload is recommended if you are having problems with operation of the computer or software.  If you wait without entering any keystrokes, the computer will run Windows from the hard drive.  The computer is set up with a base set of programs.  The “install software” icon on the desktop may be used to load additional programs.  These programs will be lost if the system software is reloaded.

For additional information on computer operation see the "LTS Guide to Public Computing Sites and Classrooms" document.

Wolf Vision Digital Document Camera Instructions

The instructor's station in this room has been equipped with a digital document camera. This high quality instrument will enable you to project material from paper, transparencies or even three-dimensional objects to the projector. To operate this camera:

  1. Turn on the projection system using the touch-screen control. Select the document camera from the source menu at the top of the screen.
  2. Raise the camera arm by pulling up on the small blue tab.
  3. If necessary, press the power button on the rear left of the base (a green light indicates on). The light should come on. If it does not, press the light button as needed. Note, this camera does not have a bottom light for overheads. The base surface is sufficiently reflective to allow use of overheads with the top light. Do not write on the base.
  4. Place your work on the base. You should see it displayed on the small preview monitor and on the projector screen.
  5. Camera controls are located ono top of the camera head:
    - Focus defaults to automatic (green light on). The picture should self-focus and remain in focus as you operate the zoom. There may be a slight delay. The automatic focus can be switched off and the two focus buttons may be used.
    - Zoom in and out with the blue wheel at the top of the camera head. There is a digital zoom feature that doubles the range of the mechanical zoom. The camera can resolve an object of about one inch square.
  6. When you are done with the camera, please
-Turn off the power with the switch on the side of the base
-Lower the camera by pulling the blue tab towards you
