Equipment Description and Capabilities

This is a registrar classroom with 18 movable seats.  There is one roll-down screen.  The flat-screen plasma display supports following sources: VHS VCR, DVD player, a TV tuner, user supplied laptop computer (laptops are available from the Media Center in the EWFM Library) and an S-Video jack.  Feeds from selected cable television channels and satellite downlinks are also available.  These devices are connected to the plasma screen.  Devices are selected at the LCD AMX touch panel, located on the wall towards the center of the room.

The auxiliary jacks provided include a 15-pin male VGA connector (with laptop and audio cables), a LAN jack and RCA video and audio and S-VHS connections for use with user supplied auxiliary devices.  An interface cable is provided at the podium for user-supplied laptops.

Usage of the Devices

  1. For use with the plasma display, it is a good idea to connect and boot your laptop before starting the system.  Plug in your laptop using the special 9-pin VGA cable. Be sure your laptop is sending out video (there is usually some combination of function keys to do this). Plug in audio cable if needed.  Plug in a LAN cord if needed.  Information on using the LAN may be found in the "LTS Guide to Public Computing Sites and Classrooms.
  2. Power up the equipment and the plasma display by touching the AMX touch-pad (two touches may be required).  Note that the display does not turn on instantly and there is a delay when changing sources.  Please be patient when selecting inputs.
  3. Power up the VCR and load tape (if needed).
  4. Power up the DVD and load a disk (if needed).
  5. Press the “Source” button on the AMX touch-pad that corresponds to the device to be projected:

    “VCR” activates the VHS VCR and displays the play, pause and other controls

    “DVD” activates the DVD player and displays the player controls

    “TV TUNER” selects the Maginnes Hall TV system.  Press “KEYPAD” select the desired channel and press “ENTER”.  For additional information about satellite downlinks and available channels contact Johanna Brams in the IRMC room 470).

    "Aux S-Video" displays an S-VHS device if you have plugged one into the tie plate.

    “Aux Video” displays an auxiliary video device if you have unplugged the existing VCR cables and plugged a different video device into the tie plate.

    “Picture Off” blanks the projector image; "Picture On" reactivates the image

  6. Adjust the volume by touching the Volume up or down arrows on the AMX touch-pad.  The “mute” button turns off the sound.
  7. Picture ON or OFF will turn off the picture.  The projector will remain on and ready for your next image.
  8. System Power Off" button to turn off projection system when done.  A confirmation message will appear.  Please select the correct button to turn off the projection system.
