The Room 470 facility is available for public use Monday through Thursday 8:30AM - 10PM, Friday 8:30AM-5PM and Staurday & Sunday noon to 10PM during the academic semester. Summer hours are Monday through Friday 9AM - 5PM. Select Site Hours for a listing of other computing locations. Select hardware for a listing of hardware at other computing sites.
The (5) Dell Optiplex 755 Intel Core 2 duo 2.66GHz machines are equipped with an 80GB SATA 7200rpm hard drive, 4GB RAM, CD-RW/DVD+/-RW, 256MB ATI RADEON HD 2400XT, and monitor. There is an HP 4250dtn laser printer. Four HP scanners are also available. A Mac is also available.
Two TV/VCR units are provided for viewing tapes or cable television. Satellite service is also provided through the cable TV service. The SCHOLA schedule is posted in the room and lists the international programs which are broadcast daily. The International Multimedia Resource Center (IMRC) also coordinates the programming on several channels of the campus cable network, cablecasting international news and cultural events as well as university academic and athletic programs.
Headsets and microphones may be signed out at the head-end control room (473 Maginnes) with a University ID, or you may provide your own headset.
All computers are connected via 10baset, which are connected to the high-speed backbone network. There is an HP Laserjet 4250dtn printer available to all computers in the room.
Instructional Technology Support Services (ITSS) may be contacted at x83059 to arrange for training of the room's features.
If the software appears corrupted, reload the software from the network by rebooting the system and selecting the option to reload the software, i.e. do not reboot from the hard drive copy. The reload takes about 8-9 minutes. If the problem persists call Library and Technology Services at x8HELP (x84357) and report the position letter and the nature of the problem. All hardware problems should also be reported to this number.
