The IBM systems are running AFS, which provides user authentication and file storage. Therefore, you MUST have an AFS account (which is also called a Network Server account). When logging in, use the Enter key to advance to the next field, not the Tab key.
See Client Services for written documentation. Also, there is a lot of documentation on-line at the menu Toolchest/Help/Man Pages.
A Hewlett-Packard Laserjet 4100 with 8MB RAM and Postscript is available for printing. The printer is to be used to print original copies ONLY. Printing large documents and multiple copies of a document is against site policies, please use a photocopier.
To print onto the Laserjet from here, use the command lp -c filename. You may also use the op command, with the destination and queue name ph317, i.e. op -d print -q ph317.
The operational contact person from the Physics Department is Lois Groff, who can be reached at x83930. If she is not available, contact the Library and Technology Services HelpDesk at x8HELP (x84357).
