Login Problems

Generic Instructions

Before reading this troubleshooting guide, you should see the logging in page for instructions on how to log into the compute server.
  1. Check if you are connected to the internet.
  2. If (from a linux machine) you get an error like: Name or service not known, you are probably not connected properly to the internet.
  3. If you get an error like: No route to host, you may have spelled the hostname incorrectly. It may also be possible that the server is down for maintenance or some other reason. In this case, you should Check the mail archives for any announcements of scheduled downtimes or breakdowns. If this is not the case, then you should inform us through the ask help page.

Instructions for Compute Server

  1. If you get a password prompt, but can not login after entering your password then, try again as you may have typed your password incorrectly. Note that password is case sensitive. Check if your CAPS-LOCK key is switched on.
  2. Compute Server uses the same password as your Lehigh Network Password. This is the same as the password for your email and blackboard. Try to see if you can login into your email or blackboard account. If you are unable to login, you should update your password and try again.
  3. If none of these work, then ask a friend of yours to login into his account. If she is able to login, then there is a problem with your account. Otherwise inform us using the ask help page.
  4. Make sure your ssh client uses ssh protocol version 2. Most new clients use version 2. Check this if you are using a very old client or if you changed the settings in the client.

Instructions for Inferno/Corona

  1. Make sure you have an active account in Inferno/Corona. See the logging in page for more information.
  2. The password for corona cluster is different from the one used for your Lehigh Network ID for email/blackboard. It should have been sent to you through email when you opened your account.
  3. The passwords for corona and infernoe are maintained separately. If you changed your password in corona, your password in inferno still remains unchanged.
  4. Make sure your ssh client uses ssh protocol version 2. Most new clients use version 2. Check this if you are using a ve ry old client or if you changed the settings in the client.
  5. If none of the above are any help, use the ask help page to request help.
