Logging into HPC machines using X-Win32

Current version you can install on our on-campus machines is X-Win32 9.2 .
X-Win32 is only available for on-campus users. Off-campus users could try 30-day trial version of X-Win32 or use Cygwin instead.

Install X-Win32

1. Click "Start" button and select "Install Software", which locates at the top of the menu.

2. Scroll down to the bottom of the list, select "X-Win32 9.2".

3. Click "Install" and click "Open" when you get the File Download dialog like this:

4. Click "Yes".

After waiting a while, the X-Win32 will be successfully installed on your machine.

Start X-Win32

1. Click "Start" and select "X-Win32 9.2 -> X-Win32" like this:

2. X-Win32 will run at the background. We have pre-configured sessions in X-Win32. You could select those sessions from the icon in the tray.

3. Choose any sessions from the menu, login dialog will pop up. Please type your username and password.

4. X-term window should be showed if you successfully login onto the system.

5. To test whether the X-Windows environment is ready for you, you could test "matlab" in the terminal. Please ignore the warning message and type 'y' in the terminal.
