> Lehigh Hosts Governor's Institute

For the first time ever, Lehigh University is hosting a summer Governor's Institute for educators throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania . The institutes are weeklong professional development opportunities, held during the summer, for teachers in public, private and non-public schools. The institute being held at Lehigh is Personal Finance and Entrepreneurial Education, and is being sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Department of Banking.

At a reception for the participants, teachers and staff, sponsored by the College of Education , Sally White, dean and professor, told the attendees how pleased she was that the state's Department of Education had chosen Lehigh as a venue for a Governor's Institute. She added that it seemed fitting for the university to host the institute, since it sponsors a Governor's School on personal finance and entrepreneurial education, as well.
The dean also said she hoped the teachers enjoyed the opportunity
they had to work in Lehigh's very impressive Financial Services Lab, which is
the only wireless one of its kind between Bethlehem and Wall Street in New York
City . The lab provides access to electronic sources of financial and investment
data, analytical tools and a 15-minute delay in real-time trading. The Financial
Services Lab has been in operation since fall 2004 and most of the money was
fundraised by the former College of Business and Economics Dean, Dick Durand.
