RESEARCH
Dr. Jitendra's research interests involve designing effective mathematics and reading instructional approaches for academically diverse learners, including students with disabilities, students at-risk, and students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Specifically, my research on schema-based instruction (SBI) has focused on mathematical word problem solving. With the recent funding of a three-year research project by the Institute for Education Sciences (IES), I will be working with Jon Star, Assistant Professor of Education at Harvard Graduate School of Education, to further extend the work on SBI to solve ratio and proportion problems by middle school students. In addition, my research includes textbook analyses and aligning assessment with instructional practices with the ultimate goal of promoting access to the general education curriculum for students with disabilities.
