Fall 2008 Workshops

Lehigh University students are welcome to participate in any of the following programs. However, some programs do require student registration. If registration is required it will be noted in the program description.

Although you are welcome to attend any of the following programs, some programs are focused specifically on undergraduate student needs while others meet the needs of our graduate students.

 

Undergraduate Focused Programs:

Career Services Overview

Whether you have never visited Career Services before or are ready to apply for full-time positions, this workshop will give you all the information you need to make the most of Career Services.  This session is particularly important if you intend to participate in On-Campus Interviewing.

First Year Pre-Professional Orientation
Become acquainted with the pre-professional advisor.  This session provides an action plan for first-year students.

Resume Workshops

Preparing a resume is one of the first steps for securing an internship, job, or even graduate school acceptance.  This session will explain the contents of a resume and detail how to write one that is appropriate for your career path.  If you have never written a resume before or are having trouble putting one together, this session is for you.

Interview Workshops
Once you have your resume polished, the next step to career success is the interview.  Preparation for interviews is the key to becoming a strong interviewer.  In this workshop, learn about the process of an interview and the common types of interview questions.  This session is perfect for you if you are just starting the interview process or want some help understanding how an interview works.

Meet representatives from over 200 companies in a variety of industries!  Network with professionals and develop contacts with companies interested in hiring Lehigh students.

Lehigh Valley Law Day
Lehigh Valley Law Day (hosted by the Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges - LVAIC) will be held this year at Lehigh University on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 from 3-5 pm in the Rauch Business Center Atrium.  Over 25 law school representatives will be present to provide information and answer questions.

Mock Interview Days
Need to polish up your interviewing skills? If you have learned the basics but need more practice, this event if for you.  Mock interviews are conducted by industry professionals who will give you immediate feedback.  Sign up for a time slot at Career Services or call 610-758-3710.

Health Professions Information
Preparing for a career in medical, dental or other health professions?  This session will update you on the process of what to be doing based upon your date of graduation.

Offer Evaluation/Salary Negotiation Workshop

Sometimes the offer with the higher salary is not the best one for you!  Learn to look at the "big picture" and take a win-win approach to the negotiation process.  Graduate and Undergraduate Student-Focused.

Six Degrees of Separation: Making Connections with Professionals
Learn what networking really means and identify people with whom you can connect in this workshop that will jump-start your own career network.  Topics covered include where to find contacts, how to connect with them, and how they can help you in any internship or job search.

Internship Workshop
Be prepared for when your family and friends ask you, "What are you doing to find a summer job or internship?"  Learn what resources are available, what you need to prepare, and how to use networking techniques to find a summer internship or job.

Graduate Student Focused Programs:

International Student Support Network

Living in another country raises a lot of questions! Come and discuss any issues on your mind in a relaxed and informal group atmosphere.  Learn about campus resources, ask questions about adjusting to US culture, and socialize with other students.  Open to all international students.

•The group meets Wednesdays beginning August 27th through December 17th, 4:15-5:15 pm at the Global Union in Coxe Hall - with the exception of Sept 10th and Nov 12th

 

Advanced Resume and Cover Letter Workshop

Beyond basic formatting, turn your resume into a self-marketing tool which is focused, targeted, and highlights your greatest and most relevant attributes.  This workshop is Graduate Student-Focused but not Graduate Student Exclusive.

Marketing Your Advanced Degree at the Career Fair and Beyond

While some career fair strategies are universal, others are specific to those with advanced degrees.  Learn to leverage your advanced degree status at the next career fair and throughout your job search.  This workshop is Graduate Student-Focused.

International Student Career Fair Workshop

Learn how to approach recruiters at a U.S. career fair.  This workshop is targeted to All International Students.

International Student Formal Interview Workshop

Learn how to interact with U.S. recruiters and the related nuances of communication necessary for a successful job interview.  This workshop is targeted to All International Students.

Graduate Student ONLY Backstage Pass at the Career Fair

All graduate students are invited to come early to the career fair to speak with recruiters who are interested in candidates with advanced degrees.  Look for emails containing updated lists of participating employers.

Industry Job Interview Workshop for PhD's, co-sponsored by Air Products and Chemical, Inc.

Technical excellence and beyond, learn from a seasoned PhD recruiter how the way you look, what you do, what you say, and how you say it impact the industry job interview.  This workshop is targeted to PhD's.
