Fall 2009 Workshops

Lehigh University students are welcome to participate in any of the following programs. However, some programs do require student registration. If registration is required it will be noted in the program description.

Although you are welcome to attend any of the following programs, some programs are focused specifically on undergraduate student needs while others meet the needs of our graduate students.

 

Undergraduate Focused Programs:

Career Services Overview

Whether you have never visited Career Services before or are ready to apply for full-time positions, this workshop will give you all the information you need to make the most of Career Services.  This session is particularly important if you intend to participate in On-Campus Interviewing.

Resume Workshops

Preparing a resume is one of the first steps for securing an internship, job, or graduate school acceptance.  This session will explain the contents of a resume and detail how to write one that is appropriate for your career path.  If you have never written a resume before or are having trouble putting one together, this workshop is for you.

Interviewing for Medical/Dental Schools

It's Interview Season for Health Professional Schools!  The first hurdle is to get the interview.  Now, be prepared!  This session will provide tips for surviving - and thriving in - the interview process for health professional schools.

First year: Pre-law

Become acquainted with the pre-professional advisor. This session provides an action plan for first year students interested in pursuing law.

Interview Workshops
Preparation for interviews is the key to becoming a strong applicant.  In this workshop, learn about the process of an interview and the common types of interview questions.  This session is perfect for you if you are just starting the interview process or want some help understanding how an interview works.

Resume Marathon
Walk in for a resume critique! Bring a printed resume -

Applying to law school for matriculation in fall of 2010 or 2011? This session will provide important information on the application process: registration for required tests, timelines to keep in mind for testing and submission of applications, obtaining letters of evaluation, polishing your personal statement, and more.

Writing a Personal Statement
Your personal statement is an important qualitative part of your application to professional and graduate schools.  This workshop will cover choosing a topic for your essay, writing tips, revision techniques, etc.

Mock Interview Days
Need to polish up your interviewing skills? If you have learned the basics but need more practice, this event is for you.  Mock interviews are conducted by industry professionals who will give you immediate feedback.  Sign up for a time slot on LUCIE by searching Employer: Lehigh University and Job: Career Services Mock Interview Day for September 24th or September 25th. Networking Workshop
Learn what networking really means and identify people with whom you can connect in this workshop that will jump-start your own career network.  Topics covered include where to find contacts, how to connect with them, and how they can help you in any internship or job search.

Lehigh Valley Law Day

Federal Jobs Career Day
Speak with representatives from approximately 50 agencies in the federal government and learn the steps necessary for exploring career options and applying for the various positions within these organizations. The federal government will be hiring new talent at a very aggressive rate for years to come and opportunities abound for students and alumni of all academic majors and disciplines, including engineering, business, environmental science, computer science and technology, liberal arts, biology, and accounting.

One of the most valuable experiences in career development is the experiences you have in your field of interest.  In this workshop, learn what resources are available to you in finding an internship, what you need to prepare, and how to use networking techniques to help you find your ideal summer internship or job.

Values Workshop

In order for our work to be satisfying, it must be compatible with our values.  Values are the things most important to us.  Intellectual status, helping others, and predictability are some examples.  Learn to identify yours not only for career preparation, but to survive graduate school as well! Marketing Your Advanced Degree at the Career Fair and Beyond

While some career fair strategies are universal, others are specific to those with advanced degrees.  Learn to leverage your advanced degree status at the next career fair and throughout your job search. Graduate student focused.

Graduate Student ONLY Backstage Pass at the Career Fair

All graduate students are invited to come early to the career fair to speak with recruiters who are interested in candidates with advanced degrees.  Look for emails containing updated lists of participating employers. Graduate student focused.

• You are welcome to stay for the general career fair, 4-8PM, Rauch Field House on Goodman Campus.  Formal dress and resumes are required!

International Student Job Interview Workshop

Learn how to interact with U.S. recruiters and the related nuances of communication necessary for a successful job interview. This workshop is targeted to All International Students. Graduate student focused.
