Synopsis
This course will be offered during the Spring Semester of 2012. It will provide an overview of the use of glass in different applications in the field of energy. It will start with a general introduction to the fabrication process and most relevant properties of glass, followed by a review of the specific energy domains where glass is currently applied or is expected to be used in the near future.
Prerequisite
Undergraduate level background in materials and/or engineering is beneficial

- Energy savings in glass manufacturing
- Glasses for solar energy: low-emissivity glass, glasses for solar concentration and photovoltaics
- Glasses for wind energy
- Glasses for nuclear waste vitrification
- Glasses for fuel cells, super-capacitors and lithium batteries
- Laser glass and phosphor-glass composites for white light generation
