WHY INTERESTED IN THE PROJECT:
Having a previous background working with at-risk children and adolescents allowed me to gain an appreciation for the critical role that prevention and early intervention approaches can play in improving outcomes for children. Over the past several years, my conceptualization of "at-risk children" has broadened to include children who experience a wide range of health problems. In light of this understanding, I have come to believe that it is imperative for school psychologists to gain an understanding of the complex needs represented by children with chronic health problems. Further, psychologists need to develop competencies in linking systems of care (i.e., health, education, families) in a way that meaningfully moves the assessment and intervention process forward. The Pediatric Leadership Grant in School Psychology seeks to train future scholars and practitioners to develop the skills necessary to promote the health and wellness of all children. I am excited to be given the opportunity to develop these competencies, and look forward to becoming an effective advocate for children's needs..
