WHY INTERESTED IN THE PROJECT:
My interest in pediatric school psychology stems from a belief that early intervention and prevention programs are essential for the promotion of children's health, especially for children with emotional and behavioral disorders. In addition, effective programs require services that address the functioning of children in all areas of their lives, including the home, medical, and educational settings. As a result, the promotion of children's health is truly about linking systems. As a pediatric school psychologist, I hope to develop school-based initiatives in order to improve the functioning of students with and at-risk for emotional and behavioral disorders. To accomplish this goal, however, it is necessary to collaborate with families, health professionals, and educators across both clinical and community settings. I believe that the specialization in pediatric school psychology will provide me with the tools to effectively link systems and act as a liaison between schools, families, and healthcare centers.
