Welcome to JOUR 366, Online journalism!

This class will be unlike any other course you have taken at Lehigh -- it will be conducted completely online. This means you'll get and complete assignments, read materials, submit your work and participate in conferences via computer.

We'll also communicate with one another individually or as groups via e-mail and the Discussion Board on Blackboard. Be sure to check the Help/FAQ page to learn how to use the Discussion Board and for other tips. And please read each of the pages linked above to understand how the course will be conducted as far as attendance, grading, etc.

This semester we will be using one "dead tree" book as well as weekly readings online. The book is:

  • Digital Dilemmas: Ethical Issues for Online Media Professionals, by Robert I. Berkman and Christopher A. Shumway (Iowa State Press 2003) (you can call it "DD" on the Discussion Board for easy reference). It's available at the bookstore.

This course will cover a wide range of cutting-edge topics, including the social, cultural, political, legal and economic issues involved in online journalism. I look forward to lively discussions and to hearing your views about these important topics.
