- Over 100 publications in condensed matter physics and photonics
- Major contributions include: structure and vibrational properties of modified tellurite glasses for optical applications, polarization properties of SBS (Stimulated Brillouin Scattering) in fibers, evolution and control of distributed SRS (Stimulated Raman Scattering) in fibers, experimental evidence for the presende of polar nanoregions in relaxor ferroelectrics, microscopic model for relaxor ferroelectrics, observation and explanation of characteristic dielectric resonances in the ferroelectrics.
- Launched with two faculty colleagues the Lehigh Optical Communications Initiative, an NSF funded interdisciplinary photonics program, which has led to the creation of The Center for Optical Technologies.
- Leader of a major All Optical Functionalities Thrust which involves 10 faculty (5 at Lehigh Univesity and 5 at Penn State) and approximately 20 graduate students and post/docs/visiting scientists.
- Launched a NSF funded interdisciplinary group for the study of complex systems with a faculty colleague in cognitive science.

Research Topic:
- Nonlinear Optics in glasses and optical fibers (e.g. stimulated Raman and
Brillouin), Propagation of light in photonic crystals
- Experimental and theoretical studies of structural and ferroelectric
phase transitions in disordered and partially ordered crystals (phonon dynamics
and localized vibrations in relaxor ferroelectrics)
