Program Mission
A fundamental concern for all schools of the 21st Century is the continual need for professional development of its teachers and administrators. Promoting global awareness through professional development is essential for all educators. The College of Education at Lehigh University is committed to providing and facilitating the exchange and transmission of knowledge through professional development opportunities. This concern for professional development is highlighted and confirmed through numerous studies developed by Lehigh University faculty.

Background
In the summer of 2001 Lehigh University conducted its first institutes for professional development. From the overwhelming positive responses from teachers, administrators and participants, our committed faculty has designed another series of institutes and certificate programs for Summer 2007. The areas of academic focus will be Special Education, Educational Leadership, and Counseling - Institute courses may be used as:

  • A Stand Alone Professional Development Unit
  • One of four courses leading to a Certificate of Completion
  • A graduate credit course(s) in one of the following Master’s Degree Programs:
  • Special Education
  • Counseling Education
  • Educational Leadership
  • Global Leadership or
  • A graduate credit towards Principal Certification in the state of Pennsylvania.

Institute and Certificate Programs
Individual course offerings are available at one of our summer institutes. These courses may be used as stand-alone professional development work or towards one of our postbaccalaureate certificates. In addition, these courses can also lead to credits for the masters degree programs and for stateside principal certification. All Post Baccalaureate certificate programs consist of four courses: two summer and two on-line courses, which may be completed within one calendar year. All participants who successfully finish the four courses will be issued a certificate of completion.
Institute locations include: Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Certificate program locations include:

  • Hong Kong
  • Bogota, Colombia
  • Kuwait City, Kuwait
  • Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
  • Dhahran, Saudi Arabia
This summer's institutes will be held in the locations listed below and to the left. Click on any of these locations to learn more about each summer institute.
