Lehigh University has always placed a high value on Security and Life Safety, and this office is but one of the ways it does so. mention, but all of which play an important part in Security and Life

Of Interest to Departments
New Faculty or Full Time Staff should obtain ID's through the
ID office in the Ulrich Student Center next to the campus Post Office. With
Departmental approval, Wage, Volunteer or Part Time employees can
instead obtain a special access card through the Office of Access
Control.
Requests for changes in Building Access Level Authorization for Employees, Volunteers or Authorized Students should be sent to inlock@Lehigh.edu Please allow at least three business days in advance of need if at all possible. If
your building has a department contact or committee related to such
authorization, the request should be made by them in most cases, rather
than by an individual faculty member, etc. to simplify the process.
Please remember that although the Office of Access Control issues all
Residence Hall, Fraternity and Sorority keys and controls all card
access on campus, academic area keys for the Asa Packer or Goodman campuses are issued through the Office of Facilities Services main office at 461 Webster Street. ( 758-3970 )There
are six fifteen minute parking spaces in front of 461 Webster Street,
for the use of customers while picking up or dropping off keys, or
other transactions with the Office of Facilities Services.
Academic area keys for the Mountaintop campus are issued through the
Facilities Services office located in room C011 of Iacocca Hall. ( 758-5310 )

The Office of Access Control and Locksmithing was formed to unify
physical and electronic security efforts on all of Lehigh University's
campuses, in Academic areas, Residence Halls, Fraternities and
Sororities. Although its primary area of responsiblity is
to maintain and operate the Card Access system in effect on the
Residence Halls exterior doors and some of the Academic Buildings, it
also maintains all of the physical locking devices on campus, and
establishes keying systems as well as hardware and keying standards to
help protect both life and property at Lehigh University. All
keys for Residence Halls, Sororities and Fraternities are issued
through this office. All access cards for non-Lehigh personnel are also
available at the Access Control office.
The Office of Access Control
is located at 42 University Drive, just uphill from Price Hall and just
below the Richards Residence Hall. It is across the intersection from
Lamberton Hall on the upper street side ( before you get to the Ulrich Student Center ).
Detailed Directions
There is a small lot next to the building for short term parking while transacting business with the office.
Mission Statement
The Office of Access Control and Locksmithing exists:
- to help students and faculty maintain an acceptable level of
physical and electronic security to protect life and property while
still respecting the need for individual freedom of movement within the
University Facilities;
- to permit each person access to those areas of the campus to
which they have a legitimate need to enter, while restricting each
person from entering areas to which they do not have a legitimate need
or from entering at times which are inappropriate, insofar as such can
be ascertained, defined and accomplished;
- to establish standards and recommendations for physical and electronic security hardware within the University;
- to maintain the architectural and historical integrity of the
Academic buildings as much as possible while still achieving a proper
and reasonable level of security;
- to assist in the creation and implementation of a "One Card"
system incorporating the ID card functions and merged with the Access
Control functions, while maintaining a reasonable and appropriate level
of security with both;
- to maintain, re-key, design and set master key levels, repair
and replace physical and electronic hardware, within the University
facilities as necessary;
- to help create an environment in which students and faculty
are aware of the important role that they play in protecting
themselves, those around them and in securing the University Facilities.
Remember: The most important person concerning security and Life Safety is YOU.
If you leave your keys lying around, or your desk or room unlocked, or
you lose your access card and do not report it, you are destroying
every effort that can be made to protect you and those around you. It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to be aware of security issues and take steps to protect yourself. - DON'T let strangers follow you into your building. ( even if they " LOOK like they belong there " )
- Report suspicious people or events in or near your building. ( But you should never directly confront them yourself )
- When a lock is broken or a key is lost, report it PROMPTLY. ( Don't wait to see if it "turns up" )
- LEARN what the procedures are for lost keys or a lost access card BEFORE you need to know.
- Review the Campus Police safety tips.
Reminder:
Do NOT punch
holes in your
ID Card!!!
Send E-Mail or Information ( not work requests - those go to Work Order Central at 758-3940 or 758-3941 ) to the Office of Access Control and Locksmithing.
