In this tutorial, you will use several images
to create a larger picture. First you will need the images. You
can draw these yourself, or you can gather them from other sources.
You will use the images provided below to create
a picture of fruit in a fruit bowl. Right click on each picture,
and choose Save Picture As (in Internet Explorer)
or Save Image As (in Netscape Navigator).
Save the files on your computer.
Now open Macromedia Fireworks. First create the
canvas for your image. Choose File - New.
Set the Width of the canvas to 400 pixels
and the Height to 300 pixels. Resolution
should be 72 dpi, and Canvas Color should
be Transparent.
Because the file will now contain transparent
portions, it will need to be saved as a '.gif' file or a '.png'
file. '.jpg' files do not support transparency.

Now open the files that you downloaded by clicking
File - Open, and selecting the files. Select
the Magic Wand tool from the toolbar.

For each image click the Magic Wand on the white space
behind the fruit or bowl, then choose Modify - Marquee
- Select Inverse. This is shown with the apple below.

Now choose File - Copy
(Ctrl-C). Then switch to the canvas you created and choose
paste. Do this for each file and you should have a canvas that looks
like this.

Now you will organize the images on the
canvas.
