Open a New Document by choosing File - New.
In the window that opens, make sure the Height
and Width of the image are the same. 500
pixels by 500 pixels will be a good size to use.
Now, select the Pen Tool from the toolbar.

With the Pen Tool, you can set anchor points to create a path. If at
any time you place an anchor point where you do not want it you have
several options. You can choose Edit - Undo
(Ctrl-Z) or you can use the White Arrow tool to
select individual anchor points and adjust them.
You will make an E. The E will appear misshapen at first. This is
ok. We will correct this problem later.
Click near the upper right corner of the canvas to set your first
anchor point. While holding down shift (this ensures a horizontal
line), click on the top left corner of your canvas.

Now move the mouse diagonally down and to the left from your last
anchor point. Click and hold the mouse. Drag the mouse down. This
will round your path. Orient the path so it is rounded, and the
tangent line points directly downward as shown below.

Now Shift-click (as you did to make the horizontal line before) at the bottom left corner of your canvas, and then
move diagonally down and right to create another rounded edge. Try
to make it look as similar to the top one as possible.
Now create the rest of the E by adding anchor points. Close the
shape by clicking on the first anchor point you made in the top
right corner.

At this point, you will have your general shape, but the dimensions
will not be exact. In the next section we will adjust the shape.
