Undergraduate Study
Industrial & Systems Engineering
Industrial engineering has expanded from its roots in manufacturing to comprise the service industry – transportation, logistics and financial institutions – and now information systems. Lehigh’s department of industrial and systems engineering (ISE), one of the oldest in the U.S., has led much of this transformation.
ISE students at Lehigh profit from:
- The chance to do a B.S. in Industrial Engineering, Information & Systems Engineering, or Integrated Business & Engineering
- ISE’s strong interaction with industry; through a well-established capstone senior design course, teams of students work on real industry projects with companies big and small
-
State-of-the-art lab facilities in computing, electronic manufacturing, robotics and automation, and manufacturing technology
ISE professors are rigorous and innovative. Some have published well-recognized research work in logistics, engineering economy, optimization, and operations research. Others have written the best-known textbooks on manufacturing processes, automation, robotics, and production systems. Professors and students alike have won a dozen prestigious awards from the Institute of Industrial Engineers, the field’s premier professional organization.
ISE faculty maintains an active global presence, serving on international boards of professional societies and collaborating with researchers in Europe, Asia, and Australia. The department has strong ties with other leading universities in graduate research and education.
