Do you enjoy being adventurous, meeting new people, and being outdoors? If so, then OAP is for you! This program takes first-year students to the Pocono Mountains where they spend their time rafting down the Delaware River , playing paintball, taking day and night hikes, and developing new friendships. Students will arrive on campus and drop off their belongings in their residence hall rooms before heading to the Pocono Environmental Education Center (PEEC ) with their student trip leaders. Volunteer Experience is a great way to begin your journey at Lehigh! Program participants come to campus early and have the chance to move in and get to know the campus before the majority of first year students arrive. Participants will then be immersed in three days of service, in which they will get to know area agencies and learn about community issues facing the Lehigh Valley .
Throughout Volunteer Experience, first year students will be forming long lasting friendships with their fellow group members and leaders. Leaders serve as mentors to the incoming first year students and assist them in their first few days on campus. Volunteer Experience eases the transition into college through meaningful action and community service. This year we are offering four great opportunities: two trips working with children, a trip to the state park helping address environmental issues, and visits to local soup kitchens/human service agencies.
Jacobsburg: Students who participate at Jacobsburg State Park are introduced to
an abundance of activities. Restoring trails, girdling trees, planting
and watering hemlock and white oak are just some of the activities and
services in which students may participate.
CitySpace and Volunteers of America : CitySpace and Volunteers of America participants care for infants and interact with elementary aged kids at the center. Students participate in various activities including computer and board games, making crafts, and other fun adventures.
SouthSide Serve: SouthSide Serve introduces participants to a wide variety of service activities including volunteering at the local neighborhood center, visiting senior citizens and making lunch at a soup kitchen.
