Research Overview

Ou-Yang’s research group conducts research in experimental soft condensed matter physics, topics including polymers, colloids and biophysics. Current research is focused on soft matters far from equilibrium in systems such as synthetic active Brownian particles (colloidal micro-robots), field-induced phoresis of colloidal particles, light-induced phase separation in particle-polymer mixtures, stratification of mixed-sized latex during film formation, active fluctuations in biological cells. His laboratory develops novel techniques that combines advanced optical imaging, optical trapping and phase-sensitive detection methods to investigate the responses of soft matters to external perturbations.
