Utilities

Facilities Services Utilities Division is responsible for energy, which can be broken down further into procurement, engineering, maintenance, and operation. The predominant form of energy used on campus is electricity, which is purchased at 69 KV through a University-owned substation. Most of the power on campus is delivered at 12 KV via a University-owned system of wires. 250 Billion BTU of #6 oil or natural gas are purchased annually to fuel two central heating and refrigeration plants that distribute steam and chilled water throughout Packer and Mountaintop campuses. Buildings not heated by steam use natural gas to provide clean sources of combustion. The Utilities Division also maintains and operates the heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment in 135 buildings using an in-house staff of mechanics and technicians. Utilities staff members also maintain smoke/fire detection and fire suppression systems (sprinklers) to enhance the protection of building occupants.

Custodial

Lehigh University contracts with OneSource Services for custodial services throughout campus. OneSource operates in a performance based contract, where they are evaluated on a regular basis and their fee is tied to their ability to reach performance targets. The university uses a system of evaluation developed and marketed by Elliott Affiliates.

Moving Crew

Lehigh University contracts with OneSource Services for a crew of two to three movers. This crew is available to departments for moving furniture and equipment throughout campus. The moving crew has a lift gate equipped flat bed truck and other equipment to assist in a move. This service can be requested through Work Order Central. (x83940)
