Houston, Texas based Dresser-Rand operates 10 manufacturing plants and 27 service centers world wide providing a complete package of solutions, from initial concept to equipment retirement for the worldwide oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical, and process industries.
- The Hershey Company (www.hersheys.com), the largest North American manufacturer of quality chocolate and sugar confectionery products has become a member of the CVCR. The Hershey Company markets such iconic brands as Hershey's, Reese's, Hershey's Kisses, and Ice Breakers and is the leader in the fast-growing dark and premium chocolate segment, with such brands as Hershey’s Special Dark, Hershey’s Extra Dark and Cacao Reserve by Hershey’s.
- Supply Chain Visions, a specialized consulting firm dedicated to assisting companies with supply chain strategy development, implementation and education, is the newest member of the CVCR. With offices throughout the U.S., Supply Chain Visions (www.scvisions.com) provides thought leadership and visionary supply chain solutions to companies ranging in size from $4 Million to over $100 billion, in both commercial and military environments.
- Air Products (www.airproducts.com), a worldwide manufacturer of atmospheric gases, process and
specialty gases, performance materials, and equipment and services, is the newest Research Member of the
CVCR. Allentown-based Air Products is sponsoring two research projects at Lehigh, one focused on
designing supply chain networks that are resilient to disruptions, and one focused on the optimization
of production schedules in the presence of volatility in electricity prices. Part of this research is being
conducted jointly with researchers at Carnegie Mellon University. - Just Born, Inc., manufacturer of MIKE AND IKE® Brand Chewy Fruit Flavored Candies, HOT TAMALES® Brand Chewy Cinnamon and Mint Flavored Candies, PEEPS® Brand Marshmallow Candies, PEANUT CHEWS® Brand Candies, and other well known candies, has joined the CVCR. Bethlehem-based Just Born (www.justborn.com) is sponsoring a CVCR research project to develop software and algorithms that perform network optimization for its supply chain network. - Oliver Yao, Assistant Professor of Management in the College of Business and Economics at Lehigh, has won the very prestigious E. Grovesnor Plowman Award for 2007 from the Supply Chain Management Educators Conference (SCMEC), sponsored by the CSCMP. His paper, " Managing Supply Chain Backorders Under Managed Inventory: A Principal-Agent Approach and Empirical Analysis," was selected as the best paper accepted for presentation at the conference. - Amanda Schmitt, Ph.D. candidate in Industrial and Systems Engineering at Lehigh, has won the 2007 SOLE Dissertation Proposal Award. SOLE is the International Society for Logistics (www.sole.org). Amanda expects to complete her Ph.D. in late 2007. Her web site is www.lehigh.edu/~ajs404.
- Jordan Stitzer ’07 was awarded the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals’ (CSCMP) George A. Gecowets Graduate Scholarship for $2,000. This spring, Jordan received his undergraduate degree from the College of Business and Economics (CBE) with a specialization in supply chain management, as well as a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the College of Engineering (RCEAS). The George A. Gecowets scholarships are awarded to students based solely on merit (academic achievement, work experience, and leadership) rather than on financial need. The purpose of this scholarship program is to make high-potential students aware of the tremendous opportunities and challenges that await them in a career in supply chain management. To be eligible, the candidate must be a senior at an accredited four-year college or university, or already be enrolled in the first year of a supply chain-related graduate program. Starting in the fall 2007 semester, Jordan will be pursuing an MS degree in Management Science in Lehigh’s department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) with a focus on supply chain and logistics.
